the best Christmas ever | Lucky Portland Photographer

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Not only was I surrounded by my family, my beautiful kids are happy and healthy, and we weren’t snowed in like last year, but Santa (aka husband) surprised me with the best gift ever! You have to really know him to appreciate his sense of humor. Christmas morning I open a box to a brand new Nikon D700 – a camera body I’ve been drooling over for quite some time. Because I do know my husband’s sense of humor, I hesitantly opened the box and sure enough he put my D200 inside. He filmed the whole thing and thought it was hilarious. At this point, I don’t know if he borrowed our friend’s D700 box (which is what he wanted me to believe) or he really did get me the camera and was messing with me. Two days go by and I’m starting to think he really was messing with me. We celebrated Christmas with his side of the family yesterday. I grabbed my camera bag to snap a few pics and what’s in there waiting for me? Yup.

Is it possible to be in love with something made of metal, plastic and exquisite glass? I say yes. I’ve only taken a few photos and I’m already madly in love.

Dear D200,
You were my first love. You fostered my love and obsession for photography. You have always been trustworthy and dependable. You have captured photographs of my children that I will forever cherish. I will always remember you and now you are my trusty back up camera.
Yours truly, Krissy

Christmas came early | Portland Child Photographer

Monday, December 14th, 2009

I was so excited to get this package in the mail, I just had to share. All of these hats came from my favorite knitter, the Funky Hooker – don’t you just love that name? Direct from Australia. Here’s a link to her Etsy shop: Funky Hooker Etsy Shop

I can’t wait to use them for the newborn photo shoot I have later this week! Love love love them!

These came just in the Nick of time (get it? St. Nick?)

The top two are newborn size (perfect for the twins I’ll be doing in February) and the bottom one is 9-12months)

Both of these are newborn size. The flower on the pink one can be removed. Ooooh, I’m going to have so much fun with these!

And, of course, I couldn’t pass up taking some photos of my favorite toddler with this hat.

Hands | Portland Family Photographer

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

I’m not posting this for the “technical” quality of the photo. I actually took this from the passenger seat of the car, didn’t set my custom white balance, didn’t do any post editing in photoshop… but I love it. My two babies always keep each other happy in the back seat of the car.

The last of the fall color | Portland Child Photographer

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

We didn’t quite the mind blowing reds, oranges and yellows that were in full color towards the middle of October, but we were able to catch the very tale end of the beautiful Portland fall color up at Washington Park yesterday. Even better – it was dry all day! Even more better (I know that doesn’t sound right) – I was able to get a shot with all three kids looking at the camera even though the younger two were more interested in exploring than having their picture taken. That meant no Photoshop headswapping – yay!

Cake smash!!! | Portland Baby Photographer

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Things just don’t get much better than a one year old, a cake, and a camera. Its always such a blast to see how they react. Some babies love to get messy, some aren’t interested at all. This little man wanted to crawl away every time we plopped him down in front of that beautiful cake. That is, of course, until he finally got a taste.

Happy first birthday, Noah Bear!!!

The beautiful cake was made by the incredible Katy Fackler.
(my apologies for the watermark posted all over the picture – i just wouldn’t want anyone to copy this picture and claim all of his cuteness as their own)
