On my blog last year, I started what will I’m sure be an unsavory tradition year after year where I post a photo of myself with my kids for Mother’s Day. Unsavory you ask? Why would that be? Because its the one and only time I’ll be posting a photo of myself where I not only haven’t photoshop’d the wrinkles on my face that seem to get deeper and more defined each year, or ever so slightly reduced the size of my arms or thighs, or give myself a barely subtle digital breast enhancement, but also where I generally just didn’t care what I looked like that day (quite apparent by the lack of make up or chosen wardrobe). Why have I decided to do this when its obvious I know that a photo of myself looks 1000x better when I get all dolled up and use photoshop to my advantage? Because this is how my kids see me most days. This is how they see me when I’m parent helping in their school. This is how they see me when we’re snuggled up under a blanket reading the Ramona books. This is how they see me when I’m making raspberry dark chocolate whole grain pancakes with whipped cream and real maple syrup on a Sunday morning. This is how they see me when we’re digging for worms in the garden and watching the carrots and radishes grow from the seeds they planted. This is how they see me when they say “I love you” and give me endless hugs and kisses from morning to night.
And this is how they see me when we spend a beautiful day with Grandma (thanks for taking the photo, mom) celebrating Mother’s Day, enjoying a fabulous picnic lunch and a short hike at Silver Falls.
To every mom, grandma, and mom-to-be out there, Happy Mother’s Day!

LOL – I love that. So real and warm. That is a great memory.
LOVE this…what a fun day with your kiddos! They will love looking back on these.
Love it! You don’t even need any photoshop work, you’re beautiful and it’s obvious your kiddos are lucky to have you as their mom.
Beautiful! Hope you had a great Mother’s Day!
Krissy – You are beautiful and love your authenticity! I’m the same way, happy to be casual comfortable behind the lens.
Amazing. YOu have inspired me to start a tradition of this myself…Also to remember that it’s not always about portraiture and liquify…I want my kids to remember ME and the MOm who does all of the things you wrote about. Thank you for sharing!
You are beautiful and I love how natural this is! Happy Mother’s Day!
