6 days old | Portland Baby Photographer

Friday, September 24th, 2010

I wanted to share a few pics of this little sweetheart. She has the thickest head of black hair and I just loved holding her. I swear, photographing newborns is quite dangerous for me (or my husband, rather). Those little squeaks they make, the soft skin, that itty bitty cry – my heart just melts. If I’m going to stick with only having two kids, I should probably stay away from all babies younger than my own because they just make me want to fill my house up with kids.

Isn’t she just the cutest?

The Biggest Dandelion EVER | Portland Child Photographer

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

I love Oregon. I love this place for countless reasons. I adore the countless settings within only a twenty mile radius that provide such exquisite backgrounds for my photos. I’m constantly finding new places that are just amazing. Oregon also has the biggest dandelions I have ever seen. Last summer, I took my kids to a new location that I found near my house. There were quite a few normal sized dandelions there. Then, hiding amongst tall blades of wheat and grass, there were a few gigantic dandelions. I took some photos of my then two year old trying to blow the seeds off. She tried with all her might but they wouldn’t budge. Between the look of sheer determination on her face and the size of that dandelion, it instantly became my favorite photo and the inspiration for my logo.

Fast forward to one year later. I put my daughter in the same exact dress and sweater. It still fit because she has grown mostly taller and leaner. :) I put her hair in two pigtails, but now my big girl has bangs. We had the same overcast summer sky as we did for the photos last year. We drove out to my secret location. There were NO big dandelions. I was so disappointed! I took some cute photos of my kids walking down a path and blowing the small dandelions. When we were about to leave, I saw one small patch of about five of the huge dandelions hiding in a patch of weeds. Going off of memory, I put her in about the same spot she was in last year and had her hold it just as she did for the photo. Only this time she was old enough to actually listen to my instructions and patient enough to blow until I told her.

Cool, huh?

Brown Eyed Girl | Portland Family Photographer

Sunday, September 12th, 2010

I wanted to post a quick sneak peek to tonight’s session before I went to bed. I had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful, brown eyed, long haired, 3 ½ month old sweetheart along with her parents and her maternal grandparents. Poor little sweetie was so tired despite having an afternoon nap, but luckily she was surrounded by four grown-ups who just adore her and wanted nothing more than for her to be happy and content. She loves to be held so that she’s facing the world and can watch everything that is going on around her. She has the most amazing big brown eyes and dark thick eyelashes. And that hair! My son is almost two years old and he doesn’t have half as much as this little beauty!

It was such a pleasure being able to take these photos and get to know the family a bit. Enjoy your sneak peek!

So stinkin’ pretty. I told her parents I wouldn’t mind keeping her. Can you see the spit bubbles? I wub wittle babies.

This one melts my heart. My kids never sucked their thumbs and I think she just looks so sweet and content here.

She enjoyed shaking that Tiffany rattle. I wonder if that means this girl will have expensive taste?

I can never get enough “mom kissing baby” shots. Never ever.

I really love this shot. They didn’t know I was even taking it. The baby was having a tough time because she was so tired. I just love how you can see each parent and grandparent trying to comfort the baby (and mom) in their own way. Love it.

Incredible | Portland Family Photographer

Friday, September 10th, 2010

There are two reasons I used “incredible” as the title for this post.

First, this family is absolutely INCREDIBLE. They took their son in when he was 14 years old and their oldest daughter was only an infant. For those of us with young teens or for those of us who remember what it was like, you know that 14 and the surrounding years are tough, to say the least. But, the act of opening your home to a teenager, taking him in, and instantly making him part of your family is incredible. This young man is incredible as well. He was so sweet – to his parents, to his sisters, to me. It was an added bonus that he looked like a model! I often write about the love, compassion and energy that I feel with the families that I photograph. It’s crazy how you can just feel it after only being with them only an hour or two. But the connection and love that these people have for each other is astounding. Another example: their dog was a rescue dog. They couldn’t find a home for her so they took her in and let me tell you – she was the sweetest little dog. What an incredible family.

Second, the best massage I have ever received in my entire life was given by the mom of this family. She owns Massage Works Pain Relief Clinic in Beaverton. Seriously INCREDIBLE. I am a firm believer in the power of massage. Starting in February of my junior year of college, I got my first migraine and I continued to get them every single week. They affected my vision, gave me a splitting headache, and made me sick to my stomach. I had my first massage in November of that year and they went away. I continued to have regular massages on and off for the following decade. I enjoyed prenatal massage throughout both pregnancies and it was a tremendous benefit to my hips and back. Then, at the beginning of this year we took a break from getting massages because we decided to try and save up as much money as we could. Six months later, low and behold, I had my first migraine after a decade of going without. A couple weeks later, I had another. Then I found D’nise. I have had more massages than I can count over the past ten years and hers was seriously the best! I am so glad I found her and can’t wait for my next one. I could go on and on and on forever about how wonderful she is and I highly recommend her. But lets get to the best part of this post – the photos!

I loved this dog. She would make a great friend to my fluffy Pomeranian. If this family wasn’t so attached to her and if my husband wouldn’t veto my decision, I would have snatched her up and taken her home as my own.

Handsome, right? I love how they’re almost the same height when they’re standing on a steep slope. :)

I love this shot for a couple of reasons. First, I think its gorgeous. Just look at that red hair. Second, it was totally her idea. A lot of times, the kids like to make suggestions during their session. More often than not, they turn out to be something that I would have never thought of and I end up loving the result.

I love that within the span of five seconds, you can get three completely different expressions with a kid this age. Just precious.

These were so much fun to take. I’m so glad no one fell and got hurt… Can you see mom & dad lovin on each other in the background of the image on the left? I didn’t even notice it until I was editing the photos.

But at the very end of the session, this little sweetie was playing and fell down and scraped up her knee pretty bad. Poor little thing. Nothing can make it hurt less than mommy can, right?

Kylee | Portland High School Senior Photographer

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

The session I had with Kylee was absolutely perfect! Honestly, it could not have been better. First off, she is just stunning. Flawless, I tell you. Then, we were able to get a ton of variety, which I love. I had taken a drive before the session with my kids and scoped out the areas I wanted to use, keeping in mind how bright and how low in the sky the sun would be when we got to that location. So, I had it in my mind ahead of time how the session would go. Kylee and her mom showed up at my house right on time (love that). She had brought a ton of clothes (love that too) and we planned out which outfits she would wear for each location. Then, it was pure magic. In less than an hour and a half, we went to six different locations, with four different outfit changes, and the most gorgeous lighting varying from full open shade to the most intense golden back light. Kylee was INCREDIBLE in front of the camera. I don’t think I got one bad shot of her. In fact, this session produced more “keepers” than any other session I’ve done. This sneak peek has only about a third of what I plan on showing Kylee and her mom in the gallery.

On top of all that perfection, there was something that made the evening so much more special. You wanna know what it was? It was the relationship between Kylee and her mom. It was so incredibly evident how much they cared for each other in the littlest things. I know these photos were a stretch for mom but she was bound and determined to not only get them for her daughter, but for her daughter to love the photos and enjoy herself during the session. Mom respected her daughter when she didn’t want to be watched during the picture taking, and she sat in the car and read her book, although I know it was killing her not to watch.  It went both ways, too. After one location, Kylee got into mom’s brand new car with dirt all over her boots and she immediately apologized when she realized that the floor mats had gotten dirty and mom instantly said, “oh, don’t worry about it honey.” Again, such a super small thing, but an example of how sweet these two were together.

Without further ado, I present to you the lovely and gorgeous Kylee…

Kadie | Portland High School Senior Photographer

Monday, September 6th, 2010

I had so much fun photographing Kadie for her senior photos. She was a complete natural in front of the camera and I just could not believe how she worked the camera. All I can say is that I hope her dad keeps a loaded shotgun by the front door because I’m sure she has quite a few admirers.

Blonde hair and piercing green eyes. WOW.

Holiday Mini Sessions are here! | Portland Family Photographer

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Announcing Holiday Mini Sessions! Take advantage of the spectacular Fall color that Oregon has to offer. Use this opportunity to update your family photos without making your husband do a full blown session (I base this generalization completely on my husband’s unwillingness to have our family photos taken for 1-2 hours). Enjoy a 15-20min session, at least 10 images to choose from in a private online viewing gallery, two affordable packages to choose from, and you get the high resolution digital images to use however you wish. How easy is that?

I am only having a very limited number of sessions this year so don’t delay – if you’re interested contact me asap to get your name in my calendar. A retainer of $250 is required to hold your spot. This will cover the Mini Collection, but you always have the option to upgrade to the Full Collection (see below) after you view your photos.
